The Strategic Asset Management Policy outlines Council’s approach to managing community assets responsibly throughout their lifestyle.

Council plans, maintains, renews and eventually replaces or disposes of assets so they continue to meet community needs.

We manage assets strategically, balancing immediate requirements with long‑term sustainability to keep them safe, reliable and fit for purpose.

The Policy applies to the physical assets that Council owns, controls, or sets technical or service standards for (for example sports ovals and pavilions). It excludes non‑physical assets and any assets outside Council’s responsibility (for example State owned highways).

The updated policy is clearer, supports better decision‑making, and now lines up properly with all the other policies and procedures Council uses to manage assets in the shire.

In other words:

  • it’s easier to understand
  • it helps guide decisions
  • and it connects properly with the rest of Council’s rules and processes around asset management

Adopting the updated policy doesn’t change Council’s direction and it doesn’t create any new costs. It simply guides how Council manages assets which already includes major renewal spending of $11.558M in 2025/26, increasing to $21.630M by 2034/35.
