Playgrounds re-open in Moriac, Ocean Acres and Jan Juc

Three playgrounds are ready for new fun after being replaced:

Newling Reserve in Moriac (pictured above)
Ocean Acres in Torquay (pictured below, first)
Bob Pettitt Reserve in Jan Juc (pictured below, second)

Community chooses colours

Thanks to everyone who voted on the colour options for three local playgrounds that are being replaced. We received more than 430 votes. We especially loved receiving feedback from local kindergarten children and primary school students!

The results were:

Bob Pettitt Reserve Playground, Jan Juc: Green and natural
Newling Reserve in Moriac: Green and natural with green path
Ocean Acres in Torquay: Green and orange with green path

We'll collate the feedback into a report, which will help us appoint a contractor.

We'll seek community input again to select a colour scheme for each of the playgrounds.

Replacement of playgrounds: Spring 2025

Construction will commence in early October 2025. We expect it will take between 1-2 months for the playgrounds to be ready.

Fast facts

Bob Pettitt Reserve and Newling Reserve playgrounds are both District playgrounds

usually located on a local road within a small park in a residential area. The playground is usually the only structure to attract people. It doesn’t usually cater to a range of ages, featuring up to five elements.

The Ocean Acres playground is a Local playground.

for an ageing playground that’s nearing the end of its life. We renew it before it becomes unsafe. A renewal sees the playground replaced with similar play features and fun as it currently has.
